Compare Office 365 Business Licensing

Of course, we know that small businesses make up the majority of professional institutions in the US and the small business community continues to grow by the day. Microsoft understands this and offers extensive and affordable Office 365 licensing to fit the qualifications and budget of small businesses so they can operate in the cloud as efficiently as a larger enterprise can. There are multiple license types based on the needs and wants of cloud licensing and each offers specific features that can help with things like data storage, collaboration, security, and more. Let's take a high level glance at what each license offers and costs to get a better understanding.

Microsoft 365 Business Basic - $6/user/month

The Business Basic license is the smallest offering for the basic user who needs e-mail and Office applications.

  • Web version of Office 365 suite of applications that are always up-to-date
  • E-mail hosting with 50gb mailbox
  • Calendar management with ability to share and schedule meetings
  • Store and share files with 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage. Can also be shared to external users using guest links
  • Collaboration through Microsoft Teams that includes hosting online meetings/video calls up to 300 users, chat and files all in one place and viewable to other users
  • E-mail security and compliance
  • Includes Microsoft Lists, Forms, Visio and Bookings

Microsoft 365 Business Standard - $12.50/user/month

The Business Standard license includes all features of the Business Basic license plus:

  • Fully installed Office 365 suite applications
  • Install applications on up to five devices per user
  • Ability to host webinars to include attendee registration pages, email confirmations, and reporting

Microsoft 365 Business Premium - $22/user/month

The Business Premium license includes all features of both the Business Basic and Standard, and puts an emphasis on advanced security features and device management:

  • Exchange Online Archiving - Enable large cloud archive and long-term preservation policies
  • Enterprise grade endpoint security to protect from ransomware and cybersecurity threats
  • Defender for Office 365
  • App protection for Office mobile applications
  • Information Rights Management
  • Device Management with Microsoft Endpoint Manager
    • Configure security features and settings for each user's PC and mobile devices
    • Automatically deploy Office applications
    • Automatically apply security policies tenant wide
    • Remotely wipe company data from lost or stolen devices

Microsoft 365 Apps for Business - $8.25/user/month

Although this license is part of the Business license classification, there are some notable differences and only includes the following:

  • Provides web and downloadable versions of the Office 365 applications
  • File storage and sharing with 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage
  • Fully installed Office applications on five phones, five tablets, and five PCs
  • This license DOES NOT include hosted e-mail

The business licensing can really offer all that a small to medium sized business would need to efficiently run the business and collaborate successfully. It is important to note that there is a maximum user count of 300 users per license type, so the types of businesses that can take advantage of these extremely popular Office 365 licenses are limited.

We offer these licenses to most of our clients at RyanTech and understand the advantages that a small business can gain from moving into the Office 365 business licensing.
